Plot Synopsis[]

The events in this movie takes place two years after the end of Season 7. Ricky, Julian and Bubbles are released from jail, and prepare to return to the Sunnyvale. Lahey, having been on the wagon since they went to jail, has plans for the park, but Julian thwarts them. This, coupled with difficulties in his relationship with Randy, causes Jim to return regress back into his old ways. With Lahey back on the sauce, and the boys returning to crime, it's a collision course to chaos.

Background[]

'Countdown to Liquor Day', as stated by Mike Clattenburg, is not a sequel to the first feature film, Trailer Park Boys: The Movie', but in fact, to the final TV special, '"Say Goodnight To The Bad Guys"'.

Randy and Lucy's son does not appear in this film, nor is there even a passing reference to him, suggesting a sort of a retcon, despite the fact that Lucy's pregnancy was a major plot point of season seven, as well as the appearance in "Say Goodnight To The Bad Guys" However, Randy mentions later in Season 10 of the show that he and Lucy gave their son up for adoption, presumably before the events of this movie.

This film also suggest how much Randy and the Boys can actually come to like each other, as when Randy leaves Mr. Lahey for good, he is quickly brought into the bank robbery operation. This can go back to "Dear Santa Claus, Go Fuck Yourself" and "Jim Lahey Is A Drunk Bastard", when it is implied that Julian and Randy (at the very least) have known each other for a number of years, and despite any misgivings or appearances of resentment toward each other, the two can actually get along, as seen in "The Way Of The Road" Julian shows concern for Randy when hes going through rough patches. It would therefor seem to suggest, that Randy's only real issue with Julian (if not the boys entirely), is the fact that they commit crimes rather then attempting an honest living. It should be noted however, that within this film, or as seen in episodes such as "I've Met Cats And Dogs Smarter Than Cory And Trevor", Randy has been willing to participate or look the other way when it comes to Julian (and the boys)'s operations.

Cyrus, Officers Green and Johnson can be seen to still be serving prison sentences toward the end of this film, with Green and Johnson serving a five year sentence since "Three Good Men Are Dead", it would appear, given dialog references in "Say Goodnight To The Bad Guys" and this film, they had two more years to go. Cyrus has been in jail since Julian, Ricky and Bubbles were, suggesting that his parole violations incurred a greater sentence then the boys had, or that for one reason or another, Cyrus was either not eligible for, or did not receive parole.

A conversation between Mr. Lahey and the boys suggest that they have been in jail for two years since. "Say Goodnight To The Bad Guys"

To Further cement that this is the intended finale of the Trailer Park Boys, the boys warn the documentary crew against following them once they are once again, released from jail. There was must criticism towards the film that it totally ruined the perfect ending that the Season 7 finale offered the show.
